Day in the Life of a Resident’s Wife: Prescription For Your Night In

As Joel might be filling prescriptions on his night shifts, I thought I would make a little prescription for others by myself! I mean, I am a doctor by association, right?! I actually told my students this past year that once Joel graduated they could refer to me as Mrs. Dr. Meister! I supported him through Med School!!!! I was there for all the tests and big events and rotations!!

Haha, anywho, here is a prescription for a night in:) As we’re rounding out week 2, I can genuinely say I’ve done this the past two weeks. I like to do this midweek as a little pick me up and something to look forward to. So here is what Dr. DeCLAIREing Happiness orders (peep my video of this on my instagram)

1.) Make yourself a little treat!

My go to is chocolate covered popcorn!! The perfect mix of salty and sweet. Make a bag of popcorn. I try to separate as many kernels out of the bag as I can. Then, melt some chocolate. I like to use Lily’s Dark Chocolate & White Chocolate. I melt them both in the microwave with a little coconut oil for about a minute with two 30-second intervals. I mix the chocolate with the popcorn and put some sprinkles on top because like why not!! When making yourself a treat, I recommend making it while the kids are still up (if you don’t think they’re going to eat through all of it haha). This popcorn tastes better when it’s been frozen for a while so I do this before I put JoJo down so it’s all ready to go afterwards.

2.) Put your kids to bed early/on time.

Tonight is one of the nights where later bedtimes is not the option!!! Plan accordingly in the timing for your littles who love stalling, for those several books read, and those extra snuggles!

3.) Comfy clothes

Put on your comfy clothes/jammies! Wash your face. Do your nighttime routine… just don’t go to bed! My nighttime routine (especially in the summer) is to wash my feet. #CanAnyoneMatchMyFreak ?! Literally get so paranoid with dirty feet touching my clean sheets. Like come on! You’ve spent the entire day in sandals / barefoot— at the store, in the streets, in grass by mud, germs, dirt, germs, dirt!! Do you really want to be sleeping with THAT 😷 I hope I just convinced you to wash your feet before bed if you’re not one of those people.

4.) Do a lil cleaning

Emphasis on the lil! You can deep clean other nights if you feel like it. Tonight’s purpose is some relaxation time!! Unless cleaning is your relaxation time and you’re like Danny Tanner. If that’s the case, then omit steps 5 & 6! This prescription calls for cleaning that doesn’t stress you out but also doesn’t make ya feel like your house is a pigsty tomorrow morning. Put the toys away, load the dishwasher, make the sink empty.

5.) Get your drink of choice.

Mine is water but this pregnancy has had me on a lemonade kick (especially the diet lemonade from Chick-Fil-A… don’t knock it until you try it). Get yourself whatever drink you fancy, but also a drink that you’ll be able to function tomorrow because hey, mom-ing tomorrow is happening whether you snooze your alarm tomorrow or not!!

6.) Snuggle up and put on your favorite TV show!

Bonus points if it’s a show your hubby would roll his eyes over // not care to watch with you lol! Joel’s night shift started at just the perfect time— The Bachelorette is on!!!!! I saved this episode for tonight and am excited to have a guilty pleasure show for the next few months!!

I’ll say, my nights don’t always look like this. Some nights are for keeping JoJo up later and playing and hanging around. Some nights are for catching up with family & friends. Some nights are work nights. And some nights are reading nights! I am prescribing at least one of these nights for your future, but take as needed! I’ll say it sure doesn’t beat having your resident husband home with you, but it can help ease the lonely symptoms.

Xoxo,

Mrs. Dr. DeCLAIREing Happiness
